Chelsea has joined Manchester United in the race to sign Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, French radio station RMC reports via The Metro.
The two clubs scouted Seri in Nice’s 3-2 loss in the Europa League against Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday.
Sky Sports reported in January that Seri has been pursued by Manchester United. However, it looks like Chelsea are entering the fold to lure the player to Stamford Bridge.
RMC reports that Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Lyon, Inter Milan and Barcelona sent out scouts for the match.
With plenty of competition for Seri’s signature, it will be a tricky task for the Chelsea hierarchy to complete the move.
Although, history suggests that the Blues could pull it off as we’ve beaten Europe’s biggest clubs in the transfer market before. Eden Hazard being the prime example.
Who is Jean Michael Seri?
The 26-year-old has had a strange pathway in his road to being widely sought after by various clubs.
After developing in his nation of Ivory Coast for ASEC Mimosas, Seri moved to Portugal, having a loan spell at Porto before signing for Pacos de Ferreira.
Seri joined OGC Nice in a €1m move. It’s expected that the French club will make a huge profit on the player who has been a force in Ligue 1.
Key attributes like passing and shooting are the best part of Seri’s game and these are traits he would find useful in the Premier League.
