Chelsea are set to make the club’s second signing of the January transfer window in the name of Emerson Palmieri, Gazette dello Sport via The Metro.
An agreement with to sign the left-back had already been in place. Due to the complications of luring Edin Dzeko, it’s been hard for Chelsea to bring both players from Roma in the same deal.
According to Italian news outlet Gazette dello Sport, Palmieri’s move to Chelsea will be completed on Monday.
Talks over bringing Dzeko to Stamford Bridge are likely to be dragged on till deadline day. Sky Sports reported on Saturday that Chelsea were willing to spend £26m on the Bosnian.
It appears that agreeing personal terms with the striker is the main stumbling block for the Blues.
The champions don’t want to wait any longer in completing the signing of Palmieri in a £22m deal.
Left-wing-back solution solved at least for now
Palmieri isn’t a player that many Chelsea fans knew of before this month. However, Conte obviously sees something in the Brazilian, who has been in Italy since 2014.
Hopefully, the 23-year-old is good enough to provide Marcos Alonso with much needed regular competition.
