Premier League club offered €75M for Diego Costa, Chelsea agreed fee with Atletico for €25M less

Diego Costa is on the brink of returning to former side Atletico Madrid, but they were not the only side in the running to secure his signature, according to Marca.

It was evident from day one that Costa is tailor made for life in the Premier League. He had no problem adapting to the physical demands of England’s top tier, and managed to find the back of the net 52 times in three seasons.

It is for that reason that it comes as no surprise that one of Chelsea’s Premier League counterparts were prepared to break the bank in order to sign Costa in the summer transfer window.

As per Marca, Everton offered €75M in exchange for the Spain international, but Costa had his heart set on a return to Atletico Madrid. Marca believe that his move to the La Liga heavyweights is worth €50M, meaning that Chelsea missed out on an extra €25M!

From a Chelsea perspective, it’s probably for the best that Costa was not sold to a fellow Premier League side. We certainly don’t fancy facing him!
