Diego Simeone claims that his Atletico Madrid side have NEVER faced a team with the intensity of Chelsea’s, report the London Evening Standard.
The Premier League champions visited the Wanda Metropolitano, and despite going a goal down to a David Luiz penalty at the tail end of the first-half, looked in complete control throughout.
Michy Batshuayi’s winner with the last kick of the ball was the icing on the cake of a superb performance, and ensured that Antonio Conte’s men would return to London with all three points in the bag.
Simeone’s side had no answer for Conte’s powerhouse Blues, and he has now claimed that Atletico have never faced a side with the intensity of Chelsea.
The former Argentina international is quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying:
“We had never faced a team with the intensity of Chelsea. We struggled to press them effectively. We improved when Griezmann went on Bakayoko and left David Luiz free. But we were imprecise.”
Atletico have locked-horns with Barcelona and Real Madrid on a regular basis, as well as facing the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus in the Champions League – so that’s quite the compliment.
