The Nigerian Football Federation have confirmed that they are close to securing the services of Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham.
Abraham has played for England at U18, U19 and U21 level and is widely considered one of the country’s most promising young centre-forwards. However, it looks as though he’s set to turn his back on ‘The Three Lions’ and choose to represent Nigeria at senior level.
The Nigerian Football Federation have announced on their official website that their president, Amaju Pinnick, has revealed they are close to stealing Abraham from underneath England’s unsuspecting noses.
Nigeria have all but booked their place at the 2018 World Cup as they sit top of their group, three points ahead of Zambia and seven ahead of Cameroon. If Abraham does opt to represent the Super Eagles, he may well have the opportunity to play in the competition. What an experience that would be for the young man.
Nigeria’s gain is very much England’s pain. Gareth Southgate has one of the weakest squads in recent years at his disposal, and it doesn’t look like the tides are going to turn in his favour.
