Chelsea vs Manchester United. A game with a rich history, and one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures on the calendar. On Sunday afternoon the two sides go head-to-head once again in hope of securing what could prove to be an invaluable three points in the title-race.
Both sides have invested hundreds of millions of pounds into assembling their star-studded squads – it ought to be quite the contest, if Jose Mourinho opts against ‘parking the bus’, that is. Our partners heart bingo promo will give you the latest betting odds in the build up to the game.
Take a moment to imagine if the two sides joined forces. If the likes of Eden Hazard and Paul Pogba worked alongside eachother, opposed to battling for dominance on the field of play. Here’s what we believe would be the strongest XI the two sides could form if they moulded into one.
GK – David De Gea
Thibaut Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet, but David De Gea is arguably top of the list. His progression since his arrival at Old Trafford has been commendable – and there’s no doubt that he’d start in goal for this team.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Cesar Azpilicueta’s recent success has been found at centre-back, but we’ve shifted him out wide to ensure there’s room for him in the side. Having established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League in recent years, there’s no way we could leave him out.
CB – Phil Jones
This would have been an eye-brow raiser 18 months ago, but Phil Jones has developed into a dependable defender under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho. His inclusion at the heart of this defence is entirely justified.
CB – David Luiz
David Luiz has not been able to produce his best form so far this term, but remains one of the most exciting and creative defenders in the league. Although he’s not entirely trustworthy, there’s never a dull moment with Luiz around.
LB – Marcos Alonso
Marcos Alonso has been highlighted as a weak spot in Chelsea’s defence, but there’s no denying how much of a threat he is going forward. There’s also the added incentive of his masterful free-kick technique.
CM – N’Golo Kante
The PFA, FWA and PL player of the year for the 2016/17 campaign. The first player ever to win back-to-back Premier League titles with different clubs. He would be the first name on the team sheet for this side.
CM – Paul Pogba
There’s a reason that Man United forked out so much money to re-secure Paul Pogba’s services in the summer of 2016. He is one of the best midfielders on the planet, and he’s only going to get better.
RW – Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial has had to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s thinking, but now he has, he’s likely there to stay. The potential of the young Frenchman is utterly frightening.
LW – Eden Hazard
On-form he’s arguably the best player in the country. Eden Hazard could be a Ballon D’Or winner one day. Entertaining, inventive and often unstoppable, Hazard is a phenom.
ST – Alvaro Morata
Alvaro Morata has spent the majority of his career so far craving a starting role at a top club. He’s got that at Stamford Bridge, and Antonio Conte is beginning to reap the rewards for the faith he has placed in the Spaniard.
ST – Romelu Lukaku
Few would deny that it was a mistake to cash-in on Romelu Lukaku, he’s now widely considered one of the best strikers on the planet. Lukaku guarantees you goals, and that’s an invaluable asset for any side.
