Why are Chelsea not in the race to sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez?
The Guardian reported earlier this week that Manchester City are confident that they will be able to secure a deal to sign the Chilean this summer, and it makes little sense why we are not providing them with stern competition.
As per the Guardian, Arsenal are reluctant to sell Sanchez to a Premier League counterpart, but could have their head turned by a bid in the region of £50M, as he has just one year remaining on his contract at the Emirates.
Sanchez would be a drastic improvement on both Pedro and Willian, and £50M for a player of his quality, in the current market, is peanuts. However, there does not appear to be ANY interest from Chelsea, which is utterly bemusing.
If we are serious about re-establishing ourselves as a European superpower, challenging most domestically and in the Champions League, this is the sort of signing we need to be making – yet we are not.
If Man City sign Sanchez, and Chelsea sit around and watch it happen, we may well be surrendering our title.
