Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Southampton defender Cedric Soares after the right-back revealed that he was happy with life at his current side Southampton, reports the Daily Echo.
As per the Daily Echo, the Portugal international has been the subject of interest from Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who is looking to bring in competition at right-back for Blues regular starter Victor Moses.
However, Chelsea’s Italian manager has been dealt a major transfer blow just a day before the window closes with the European Championship winner revealing that he is happy with life on the south coast.
“I have a contract with Southampton and I am working every day like I always do. I am professional,” he told the Daily Echo.
“Of course a player likes to know some big teams are interested in us and it’s normal. We work every day.
“I have a contract. I am focused and what happens will happen.
“I have a contract and I am doing my best here.
Antonio Conte has already signed one defender this summer with Antonio Rudiger arriving from Roma last month. Yet, Chelsea’s interest in Cedric suggests Conte is keen on the idea of adding more additions to his defence in the last couple of days of the window.
According to the German publication Bild, the Blues will now look to make a bid for Bayern Munich’s Rafinha after missing out on their top targets.
