Chelsea will make a last-ditch attempt to sign AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas, according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.
Giulianelli reports that Manolas is on the brink of joining Russian giants Zenit, in a deal worth £26M. However, the Premier League champions are not thought to be allowing Manolas make the move without putting up a fight, and will offer Roma £35M in exchange for the Greece international.
As per Giulianelli, Antonio Conte wants to add Manolas to his title-winning squad, but Zenit are believed to be offered better personal terms than the Blues, which could prove to be a stumbling block.
Only time will tell who Manolas will be playing for next season, but Giulianelli believes that Roma and Zenit are in advanced negotiations over his sale – Chelsea may well have made their move too late, and Conte will subsequently have to look elsewhere in his pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
