Antonio Conte will reportedly have to accept defeat in his pursuit of West Ham star Michail Antonio.
The Sun report that Antonio’s good performances in a Hammers shirt have captured Conte’s attention, with the Italian thought to be keen to draft him into his squad. The tabloid note that Antonio was expected to leave the London Stadium in the summer window, but has made an unexpected U-turn on his future.
According to The Sun, Antonio has now put pen-to-paper on a contract extension with West Ham. The tabloid report that Antonio, who is now in the England set-up, has signed a four-year deal, which will keep him in East London until 2021.
We will perhaps never know what Conte planned to do with Antonio, whether he would use him on the wing or at wing-back, but he will have to look elsewhere in his attempts to strengthen his squad for life in the Champions League.
