It appears as though Christian Atsu’s time as part of Chelsea’s loan army is coming to an end – but not how he, perhaps, would have liked. Antonio Conte is not drafting the Ghanaian into his first-team squad, he is reportedly cashing-in on a player who is seen as surplus to requirements.
According to Sky Sports, Atsu has agreed terms with Newcastle to move to St. James’ Park on a permanent transfer. Sky Sports believe that Atsu, who has spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan with the Magpies, will leave Chelsea in a £6.2million deal.
That may seem like a small fee for a player who, when he left Porto, was thought to be destined for the top. However, Atsu has never made an appearance for Chelsea, and now 25-years-old, it’s clear that he is not cut out to play at this level. The £6.2million fee reported by Sky Sports is extra cash for Antonio Conte to work with this summer.
