Real Madrid appear set to give up on their pursuit of Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard.
According to Calciomercato, Los Blancos were lining up Hazard for a potential summer swoop, with Juventus star Paulo Dybala also thought to be on the list of targets. However, the Italian outlet believe that Hazard is set to extend his contract with Chelsea, ending Real Madrid’s hopes of signing him.
Calciomercato cite TMW in reporting that the La Liga heavyweights will make a move for Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum instead, and have already made contact over the possibility of signing him this summer.
This is great news from a Chelsea perspective. Hazard had a season to forget last time around, but has been in stunning form this time around. The Belgium international has bagged 15 Premier League goals, as well as providing five assists for his teammates. He may well be rewarded with a second Premier League winners medal, and if Calciomercato are to be believed, a new contract.
