Manchester United have made an official approach for Torino striker Andrea Belotti, according to ESPN.
The Daily Star reported on Sunday that Chelsea are also interested in signing the Italy international, and may hold an advantage over United after qualifying for the Champions League.
However, it appears a though former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is already taking steps to secure Belotti’s signature. ESPN believe that the 23-year-old has a £84million release clause in his contract which can only be activated by clubs outside of Italy – giving Chelsea and Man United a leg-up in their respective pursuits.
It remains to be seen whether Antonio Conte will make his interest in Belotti concrete, as Mourinho has, but £84million is a serious amount of money to part with for a player relatively unproven at the top level.
However, if Belotti was able to replicate his Torino form in a Chelsea shirt, he may well prove to be a shrewd signing.
