Chelsea’s pursuit of Southampton centre-back Virgil Van Dijk appears to be getting more and more complicated as each week passes.
Despite missing several months with a serious ankle injury, Van Dijk was one of the best defenders in the Premier League last campaign. He impressed during his time with Celtic, but has now established himself as one of the best centre-back’s in the top-flight. His good performances do not appear to have gone unnoticed.
According to The Sun, Chelsea and Manchester City are both interested in securing Van Dijk’s services this summer. The Sun believe that Man City are prepared to pay a whopping £50million to get the deal over the line – but even that may not be enough.
The Sun believe that the Saints will demand an eye-watering £70million in exchange for the Dutchman, which seems to be a highly inflated figure, even for a player of his quality.
