Chelsea are set to taste defeat in the race to sign AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas, report Calciomercato.
According to Calciomercato, Chelsea are long-term admirers of Manolas, with speculation linking the Greek international with a move to Stamford Bridge dating back as far as last summer, when Antonio Conte first stepped foot in the door at Cobham.
However, Calciomercato believe that despite the Premier League champions holding a strong interest in signing Manolas, they are yet to open talks with Roma over the possibility of taking him to West London. It now looks as though they will be punished for their hesitency.
Calciomercato report that Manolas has now agreed personal terms with Russian giants Zenit, ahead of a summer move to Russia. The Italian outlet note that the final fee could be in the region of £30M – it remains to be seen whether Conte will look to match, or better, that offer in order to snatch him from Zenit’s grasp.
