Chelsea injury blow: Conte confirms Drinkwater ruled out for several more weeks

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater may have to wait another month to make his debut for the Blues, report the Daily Mail.

Drinkwater arrived at Chelsea on transfer deadline day, but is yet to feature for the Premier League champions. In fact, he has not played a minute of competitive action so far this season, despite being named among the substitutes against former side Leicester City.

It looks as though Drinkwater’s wait to make his Chelsea debut is set to go on, perhaps for another month. The Daily Mail report that Antonio Conte has confirmed in his pre-Arsenal press conference that the 27-year-old has suffered a fresh injury.

The Daily Mail quote Conte, who reveals:

“He needs time to recover. It’s a pity because he was starting to work and to improve his physical conditions. Now we have to move all these situations. And in two, three weeks, four weeks, I don’t know.”

It now seems unlikely that we will see Drinkwater in a Chelsea shirt until after the international break, which is a huge blow for him on a personal level. Thankfully for Conte, Cesc Fabregas, Tiemoue Bakayoko and N’Golo Kante are sufficient options in that area.
