2012 Champions League winner insists the club can repeat history

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel insists Chelsea will dump favourites Barcelona out of the Champions League, Goal reports via Tianjin Today Evening News.

Mikel’s time at Stamford Bridge spanned just over a decade, playing a beneficial role for the club. The Nigerian made 372 appearances and was part of our great success, including winning the Champions League in 2012.

When speaking to Tianjin Today Evening News, Mikel hasn’t forgotten the memorable semi-final second leg against Barcelona and has made a prediction that maintains his status as a fan favourite.

Goal quotes Mikel saying:

“I have been played for Chelsea for 11 years and that comeback I will remember for the rest of my life.

“I believe they will knock out Barcelona on their own ground, just like we did in 2012.”

Torres Celebrating Scoring Vs Barcelona 2012
Fernand Torres’ last minute goal at the Nou Camp in 2012 is a moment Chelsea fans will never forget

With the difficult task of stopping Barcelona at the Nou Camp, Antonio Conte’s side may need the away goals format to help them advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

We’ve proven that we can pull off major upsets in the past years so there’s no reason why the club can’t do it again.
