Now here’s a rumour that’ll give you difficulty sleeping at night…
You will all remember the football we played under the stewardship of Guus Hiddink the second time around. The Dutchman enjoyed an illustrious career, but was clearly past his best as a manager when he stepped in to replace Jose Mourinho following his dismissal in the winter of 2015.
Hiddink ‘steadied the ship’ and ‘saved us from relegation’ – at least that’s what many will tell you. The harsh reality, however, is that he was a manager with outdated ideas who was unable to do achieve anything more than sheer us to a tenth-place finish.

With Antonio Conte under pressure at Stamford Bridge, there have been suggestions that we could soon be welcoming another interim manager. The Mirror believe that man could be ex-Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal.
Hiddink’s compatriot was every bit as uninspiring during his time at Old Trafford, and the prospect of him replacing one of the best managers in the world in Conte is something that nobody wants to entertain.
