Olivier Giroud has been the most respectful professional and as a result, Chelsea should let him go

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has been rumoured to be looking at moving on from the club this January, and Chelsea could let him.

Giroud is concerned by his lack of game time at Chelsea and as a result, his place at this summer’s European Championships with France.

You can totally understand his predicament, at his age now he just wants to play football before it is too late, and he also wants to play at the highest level possible – the international stage. He is still rated by French national coach Didier Deschamps, but even he might struggle to keep picking him if he remains a Chelsea backup player.

Some have said that Chelsea may still need Giroud and should not let him go in January. Whilst I understand why, I believe that due to the fact that Giroud has been nothing less than a totally respectful professional for us, that we should allow him to leave in January in return.

Most players would moan, sulk, and hang their heads. But Giroud has stood up in silence and done a fantastic job whenever he was called upon, it has been refreshing to see.

Chelsea won’t allow him to leave if they have any injuries to Timo Werner or Tammy Abraham at the time, but if they both remain fit, we should let Giroud go, he deserves our respect as he has given us his.

Chelsea have quality academy strikers for last resort, they could also replace Giroud for a cheap option, or they can even use Kai Havertz or Christian Pulisic as a false nine if needs really must. But I see no reason to tarnish our relationship with a player who has been an excellent club man and club servant.

As sad as it will be to see him go, I think letting him leave is the best option for both the player and the club. As the blog states, we have many strikers available already and it would be best to give them as much game time a possible… Read more »
