Mateo Kovacic ran the show from midfield in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Burnley on Sunday afternoon. An exquisite performance from beginning to end – but one piece of skill caught Twitter’s eye.
The Croatian international played a pivotal role in the victory with precise passing and driving runs from deep – but it was one particular back-heel pass that caught the eye of supporters.
After a loose ball looped into the air, Kovacic latched onto it to produce a sublime back-heel flick to unleash Mason Mount running at the Burnley back line.

Displays like this from Chelsea’s player of the season could be a sign that Kovacic is back to his best. After a recent dip in form, the three-time Champions League winner looked on top of his game against the Clarets, and with a new system that seems to fit his game well, could Mateo Kovacic flourish under Thomas Tuchel?
