Opinion: The anger in Timo Werner’s eyes are a big positive

There was a moment last night during the win over Newcastle when it made me fear a lot less for the Chelsea career of Timo Werner.

The Blues striker had just took a whack in the face in the first half when his side were working to break a stalemate at Stamford Bridge.

Milan Skriniar is ‘high’ on Chelsea’s list of centre back targets, find out more HERE!

There was blood coming out of his mouth, and Werner complained to the referee and linesman about not getting a foul. I started to think the worst, like ‘oh now the frustration is really seeping through here’ for a striker who had gone 15 Premier League matches without a goal.

But then the camera glanced back to the German international as he wondered off the get his wound seen to, and the look of anger in his eyes said it all, it was more of a determination to get back on the pitch and do the damage with his feet.

He then used that anger and turned it into positive energy on the pitch as he immediately runs back on and sets up Chelsea’s first goal of the game breaking the deadlock, literally whilst his mouth was still dripping with blood!

He didn’t sulk, he didn’t carry on complaining, he said no more and went for revenge in another way, the best possible way.

This kick started his game and maybe even his Chelsea career as he then went on to score Chelsea’s second goal to put the game to bed and put his team back in the Champions League spots.

Seeing the look of anger in his eyes was reassuringly positive for me. Reacting determined to defeat the bad luck, the poor form, and the decisions going against him, rather than sitting there feeling sorry for himself, it is this attitude that will see Werner show his full potential at Chelsea.

Great observation and synopsis and I saw the same and had already been feeling positive about Timo from his interview after the Barnsley game that showed his positivity in adversity with the goals streak. More to come from him for sure!
