(Report): AS Roma’s Gianluca Mancini attracts Chelsea’s attention

Serie A defender Gianluca Mancini has impressed more than most with his fantastic performances for Roma this season.

He has long been on the books of top European clubs for quite some time, with Manchester United, Inter Milan and Chelsea in line to lure him. (DailyMail)

Manchester United see Mancini as the perfect partner for English defender Harry Maguire, whereas Inter are also reportedly looking to strengthen their defence.

The former Atalanta centre-back was lured by Roma initially on a loan transfer but he proved too valuable at the Stadio Olimpico for Roma to not make a permanent transfer in September 2020.

With a price tag of around the €25-30m range, Chelsea might find the most affordable suitor for reinforcing the back four. The club have already been linked to several other defensive options in recent weeks including David Alaba, Jose Giminez and Ibrahima Konate.

The 24-year-old possesses excellent vision on the ball for a defender. His aggression, energy and versatility makes him a great addition to any club. He can also operate in the right-back role.

So far this season for Roma, Mancini has registered 2,406 minutes in 28 appearances – scoring five goals and assisting twice across all competitions. (transfermarkt)

Although it looks highly unlikely Roma will part ways with Mancini, a high transfer fee might just be too mouthwatering to reject for Paulo Fonseca’s side. He is one of Serie A’s most impressive stoppers and Chelsea’s style of play would certainly match him.
