(Video): Billy Gilmour shines in midfield against Sheffield United

Billy Gilmour’s inclusion in the starting eleven got many fans wondering what to expect from the talented 19-year-old. Gilmour made only his second start under Tuchel, appearing first in the previous round of the 1-0 FA Cup victory against Barnsley.

Gilmour was brought to the limelight after Lampard frequented his presence with more game time. His presence in the squad under Tuchel’s has been only in the FA Cup, where he’s appeared for a match and a half so far.

The No.23 was substituted out for Hakim Ziyech, lasting for only 72 minutes on the pitch, but nonetheless he provided few moments of brilliance.

He registered a pass success rate of 92%, completing 61 accurate passes. He also made 79 touches in a match where Chelsea had 71% possession. (whoscored.com)

The half an hour mark saw him receive the ball on the left flank from Ben Chilwell, before sending in a deft lobbed pass over the Sheffield United defence. Although Hudson-Odoi ran in late and it was declared offside, Gilmour’s vision was Fabregas-esque to say the least.

Right after half-time, Gilmour won the ball brilliantly off United central midfielder Fleck and sent a through ball in the path of Hudson-Odoi once again, only to see it go out for a goal kick.

He exited the field to make way for Hakim Ziyech, who finished off a brilliant counterattack and made it 2-0 for Chelsea on the night.

Gilmour made a positive midfield contribution throughout his stay on the field and Tuchel will certainly have something to think about with future selections.
