Manchester City ace Ilkay Gundogan has reinvented himself this season at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola’s guidance.
The Germany midfielder has played a pivotal part in propelling City to the top of the Premier League table.
Now, Gundogan has defended his national compatriot Kai Havertz over his debut season in England.
Both the players have appeared regularly for Germany in the World Cup qualifiers, playing a significant part in the 3-0 & 1-0 wins over Iceland and Romania respectively.
Speaking in Germany’s pre-match press conference (via METRO) ahead of their clash against North Macedonia, Gundogan said:
“Kai is exceptionally good technically. I think it’s great that at his age he had the courage to take the step abroad. He’s played a lot of good games for Chelsea, but it is normal for everything not to work out in the first season.”
Speaking further, the former Dortmund man backed him to achieve great success in London, given his immense talent.
“He has sensational qualities and will make a big statement in the Premier League,” he said.
Havertz has scored one and assisted one in two matches so far in Germany qualifying campaign.
In the Blue shirt, Havertz has displayed bits and pieces of what his former club, Bayer Leverkusen were treated to last season.
He is known for his attacking talent and tends to perform his best when deployed in the false-nine role, regarding which Tuchel has praised him time and again.
