Having free agent back up choices for main targets could be wise, and here are a handful of names who are out of contract this summer that Chelsea could pounce on.
Gianluigi Donnarumma
We have all heard the links season after season with Chelsea wanting to sign the 22-year old stopper, now is the perfect chance to do so as he stalls on a new AC Milan deal.

If Chelsea end up losing both Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham this summer, I’d go and get Aguero as well as a top striker like Erling Haaland. Certainly a great back up option if Chelsea cannot land Haaland or a similar alternative until next summer.

We keep being told he is joining Real Madrid, but it hasn’t happened yet, and until then Chelsea could still pounce.
Juan Bernat
Chelsea could end up losing Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso this summer depending on circumstances, so Bernat at 28-years old to come in and compete with Ben Chilwell on a free transfer could be a decent shout.
Lionel Messi
Messi anyone? Looks destined for Manchester City, but Roman Abramovich has been known to do a madness before, never say never!
Sergio Ramos
Same with Ramos, I’d take a 35-year old Ramos at the heart of our defence any day of the week.
Memphis Depay
He’s been hitting some great form in France and really showing what he is capable of. Could be an extra option for Chelsea to help them get goals, especially depending on some of the futures of our own attackers this summer.
Lucas Vazquez, Giorgino Wijnaldum, and Hakan Calhanoglu have all been linked with Chelsea in the last couple of weeks as well.
