Opinion: Hakim Ziyech deserves credit, but inconsistencies are frustrating

I’ve seen a lot of people debating the performance of Hakim Ziyech against Manchester United on Sunday and the two differentiating views seem to be extreme one way or the other.

It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!

Either people are slating his performance saying he was terrible, or some are saying he played very well. For me, I think he was OK and deserves credit, but he’s still too inconsistent. Here’s why:

The positives –

His work rate was fantastic and his high pressing. He is being more direct and forward thinking when he does get on the ball, and technically he was good and also looking much stronger on the ball.

The negatives –

He will do something brilliant like a nice turn, flick, or clever pass, but then he’ll follow that up by missing an easy pass, giving the ball away with an unforced error, or hitting a weak shot at goal. This was the biggest thing for me against United on Sunday, his shooting was very weak, he was hitting without venom and straight at David De Gea. But then collectively all of our players could not shoot on Sunday!

But listen, he was far from poor and his performance was certainly one of the more positives in a Chelsea shirt. I like how he is playing with a lot more intensity and direct style of play, he is actually looking to try and take players on now, something he never really did before. He’s also very clever on the ball.

But yeah for me, he is still just frustrating me a little with his inconsistencies and whilst he deserves credit for a decent performance against United, he needs to do a lot more and collectively produce for longer sustained periods.
