Opinion: Quick changes point towards Chelsea working on more than one target

We actually see this every single transfer window. Chelsea are linked with a player, they seemingly advance for that player, and then a brand-new target emerges and the aforementioned links die out.

It’s happening a lot this window as well. For example, we are seeing Chelsea linked with a number of attacking targets such as Raheem Sterling, Richarlison, Raphinha, and Ousmane Dembele. It looks clear that Chelsea are targeting two new attackers, and that Sterling seems the most likely and biggest priority.

But the transfer pendulum keeps swinging. Chelsea looked to be concentrating on Richarlison as the other choice up top, but now today it looks as if Tottenham are leading the race for this one, and Chelsea might turn their attentions to Raphinha. But then this morning, there was reports that Chelsea had made an offer for Ousmane Dembele.

The fact is, all of the above might be correct and probably is. Because Chelsea are clearly working on a number of options for any one position at the same time, and this to me, is a very wise way of operating.

There is no way that we should put all our eggs in the same basket. We could spend months negotiating for one player and then fail at the final hurdle.

If we don’t have another option that we are advancing with at the same time, then we could end up signing nobody for that position.

So, I think that is a large part of why we keep seeing so many changes in this window, and even more than usual. All part of silly season.
