The reason Enzo Maresca and his teammates “lost trust” in Nicolas Jackson’s behaviour

Nicolas Jackson didn’t seem to like being Chelsea’s backup striker before, and that will play a part in our summer plans.

Chelsea’s striker situation is going to be very interesting this summer.

They have one top player in place – Joao Pedro had a really good season. But the race to be his backup is complicated. Nicolas Jackson was loaned out but will now return. Liam Delap had a shocking season trying to back JP up.

Now plenty of fans are wondering if we can simply bring Jackson back as backup, and let Delap go elsewhere. In terms of the quality of the players it makes perfect sense, but Liam Twomey at the Athletic has pointed out that it might be a little more complicated than that.

Jackson didn’t like to be second fiddle at Chelsea

“The one question you would have [about Jackson coming back is], will he buy into his role at Chelsea, because at the Club World Cup, I think that’s what played a big part in the loss of trust between him and Maresca, and maybe even, honestly, between him and some of his teammates,” Twomey said on an Athletic podcast this week.

“He seemed to react in the worst possible way to Joao Pedro coming in, to Liam Delap coming in.”

In other news…

Enzo Fernandez wants to get his future sorted out soon, but he’s fresh out of luck. Deals that big don’t just come out of nowhere.

Cole Palmer is not going to the World Cup with England, and when you look at his stats from this season just gone, that should be no surprise.
