Chelsea have been given a rough idea of what Maxence Lacroix will cost them, even before an official bid has been made.

Before the Granit Xhaka and Marco Palestra news exploded out of nowhere last week, there was one man dominating the Chelsea transfer news – Maxence Lacroix.
The Blues are locked in on their top defender target, and by now we’d have expected a bid to be in. But according to the Daily Mail’s Palace transfer coverage today, there has been no “club to club” contact over him.
Palace to ask for more than £52m for star defender

The piece also points out that a marker has been laid down for the price by Jan Paul van Hecke’s move to Tottenham. That was a £52m deal, and sets the floor for what Palace will ask. With three years left on his contract, his club are in a strong position.
We can see Chelsea stretching as far as £60m plus bonuses, but beyond that it gets very tricky to see the Blues paying up.
That’s especially true while the club have so many other centre back options sitting on the bench. The priority is surely to sell a couple of them first and figure out how much we can afford to pay for the exceptional Lacroix.
In other news…
Xabi Alonso has a lot of responsibility, and could even force Chelsea to change the goalkeeper policy which has not been at all successful.
Alonso starts work today, and he will be very glad that he is able to work with Cole Palmer right from day one.
