Courtois contract talks stall over £200k-a-week wage demands

Contract talks between Chelsea and Thibaut Courtois have stalled due to the goalkeeper’s wage demands, with the Belgian seeking £200k per week, report The Times.

Without further talks, Courtois could be set to begin the new season without a deal being reached and just two years left on his £100k per week contract.

The Times report that Courtois hopes to earn a similar amount to Manchester United’s David de Gea and that he believes he is justified to do so after he won the Golden Glove last season, for the most clean sheets in the Premier League, as Goal reported.

Courtois has been the subject of interest from Real Madrid, per The Guardian, who are believed to have turned their attention his way, after finding their approaches to De Gea and Manchester United rebuffed, as The Guardian also reported.

Chelsea are keen to keep hold of Courtois, though, and with Eden Hazard being the club’s top earner on £200k per week, a deal could be struck.
