Euro 2020 is well underway, with the group stages over and the remaining teams working hard to stay in the knockout stages. International tournaments like these are a great opportunity for fans to see squads of players that would normally be rivals coming together for the pride of their nations.
Competition is tight this year with Germany, France, Belgium and Italy all considered strong contenders. Until recently, England had been the bookies’ favourite, though France has since overtaken them. That said, the opening win against Croatia has done a lot to bolster England fans into believing football could finally be coming home. Many betting sites have seen a rise in punters looking to back the three lions, especially in recent days. To help these punters get more from their wagers, OLBG recommends that fans consider these offers if they are supporting England.
Chelsea fans will see a lot of familiar faces in this year’s European Championship, with 17 blues players included on the team sheets for their respective countries. This includes three each from England, France, and Germany.
Here are all the Chelsea players competing in the tournament.
Italy
Two Italian Chelsea players will be taking part in Euro 2020. The first is Emerson Palmieri, the 26-year-old left-back has been a part of the Italian national team since 2018, though he had previously played for Brazil, his country of birth. Ahead of Euro 2020, Palmieri had made 15 international appearances for Italy.
The second Italian from Chelsea taking part is the 29-year-old midfielder, Jorginho. Ahead of Euro 2020, he had made 30 appearances and scored five goals for Italy since he was first called up in 2016.
Wales
Ethan Ampadu will be the sole Welshman from Chelsea taking part in the tournament. The 20-year-old had been a part of the national team for several years and has made 25 first-team appearances ahead of Euro 2020.
Belgium
Michy Batshuayi is the only Chelsea player in Belgium’s Euro 2020 squad. The striker has been on loan from Chelsea for most of the time since 2018, playing in Germany, Spain, and down the road at Crystal Palace. Although he did score several goals for the Blues in the 2019-20 season.
He’s been a member of the Belgian national team since 2015 and has made 34 appearances and scored 22 goals in that time.
Denmark
Andreas Christensen is the only Chelsea player representing Denmark in Euro 2020. The centre-back has been at Stamford Bridge for the best part of a decade, though he’s only managed 74 appearances for the club. He’s also been in the Danish national team since 2015 and has made 43 appearances.
Croatia
Croatia has selected Mateo Kovačić for its Euro 2020 squad. The midfielder, who recently turned 27, has made 69 appearances for the country since 2013 and was part of the squad that took the country all the way to the finals in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
England
England has the joint highest number of Chelsea players in its squad. Gareth Southgate has chosen Reece James, Ben Chilwell, and Mason Mount. Although Chilwell has been part of the national team since 2018, he wasn’t included in the World Cup squad. This will, therefore, be the first major international tournament that all three have taken part in.
Scotland
Scotland’s sole representative from Chelsea is Billy Gilmour. The 20-year-old midfielder only made his first-team international debut in May 2021 after Steve Clarke selected him for Scotland’s team. He played in the final nine minutes of a friendly against the Netherlands before the start of the tournament.
Spain
At 31, César Azpilicueta is one of the oldest players on this list. The defender has been a regular feature in Chelsea’s lineups since 2012 and has competed in 25 games for Spain since joining the first team in 2013.
France
Like England, France has three Chelsea players in its 23-man squad for Euro 2020. These are centre-back Kurt Zouma, central midfielder N’Golo Kanté, and striker Olivier Giroud.
At 34, Giroud is by far the most experienced. He’s got 109 caps for France had as scored 46 times in those games, a conversion rate that’s twice as good as his success at Chelsea.
Germany
Joining the French in Group F is Germany, which also has three Chelsea players in its Euro 2020 team. 28-year-old Antonio Rüdiger is the oldest of the three and has played in 43 international games since 2014. He’s joined by Timo Werner, a forward who’s scored 16 times in his 40 games for Germany since 2017, and Kai Havertz who makes his debut in a major tournament at Euro 2020.
