- WATCH: Giroud scores superb header against Liverpool
Chelsea defeated Liverpool 1-0 on Sunday afternoon to keep our hopes of Champions League qualification alive.
It was the visitors who dominated for the majority of the first-half, but Olivier Giroud’s superb header separated the two sides at the break. Victor Moses swung the ball in from the right-hand-side, with Giroud steering the ball into the far corner with his head.
That proved to be enough to take Chelsea over the line and two points away from the top four. We’re still relying on Tottenham and Liverpool to drop points between now and the end of the season. All we can do is secure maximum points and hope that they do.
Many had suggested that Antonio Conte threw in the towel earlier in the season. Recent performances are definitive evidence that couldn’t be wider of the mark.
Here’s our player ratings for today’s crucial victory. Do you agree with us, Blues?
Courtois 7, Azpilicueta 8, Cahill 7, Rudiger 9, Moses 9, Fabregas 6, Kante 8, Bakayoko 8, Alonso 6, Hazard 9, Giroud 8. (Subs: Willian 5, Zappacosta 6, Pedro 6)
