Chelsea fans criticise star player once again after sub-par showing at St. Mary’s

Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta is getting a tough time on Twitter from Chelsea fans, and as much as it pains us to say it, it’s justified.

Azpilicueta has been a cornerstone in the Chelsea team in recent seasons. He’s operated at both left-back and right-centre-back, but we’ve been told all along that we’d see the best of him in his natural role, right-back.

Maurizio Sarri has reverted to a back-four and Azpilicueta has been moved to right-back. However, in all honesty, he’s been one of our worst performers this season.

Defensively he has looked suspect on several occasions, but going forward he has been inaccurate and wasteful. He appears better equipped to cross from central positions, rather than carrying it down the touchline and delivering from there.

Azpilicueta is the leading contender to get the captaincy full-time, but he’d do well to stay in the team for much longer. Chelsea fans are running out of patience with him – how long until Sarri does too?

Azpilicueta at right back honestly ain’t it, he’s most efficient in a three man center back pairing and unfortunately we’ve binned that system.

Need an actual right back to be signed in January.

Azpilicueta is brilliant in a defensive system. Definitely one of the best in the league. But very poor on the offensive and in maintain possession. A reason why he never gets picked for the Spain starting eleven. Not the player for this role. #SOUCHE

Azpilicueta has been pretty average/bad over the last month or so. Worrying since he was one player who you’d expect at least a 7/10 from in every game.
