Chelsea manager Antonio Conte defends summer signing’s recent form

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has backed Alvaro Morata’s recent performances since recovering from a hamstring injury, the Daily Star reports.

Morata got off to a scintillating start at the Blues, scoring seven goals in 13 matches across all competitions. However, since coming off in the first half of the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, Morata hasn’t had that same sharpness about him.

But when speaking in last night’s post-match press conference, Conte defended his striker and asked for patience after failing to score in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

Conte is quoted by the Daily Star saying:

“Honestly, I’m happy with his commitment, his desire, his will to fight. For sure, he can do better but, don’t forget, he is recovering from a muscular problem.”

Morata had several chances that he squandered in the win at the Vitality stadium. However, he was the creator for Eden Hazard’s decisive goal.

Of course, there is a lot of pressure on Morata, joining the club for a club record fee and replacing Diego Costa. Although he isn’t at his best, the Spaniard can still make a difference, as proven yesterday.

Hopefully our goal-getting striker can find the route to goal in our crucial Champions League trip to the Italian capital against Roma on Tuesday.
