Chelsea player statistically slowest in the Premier League this season

Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill is statistically the slowest player in the Premier League. Does that surprise anyone?

Cahill hasn’t been able to force his way into Maurizio Sarri’s starting eleven this season, and there’s a good reason for that.

He’s not the modern defender that Sarri craves. He’s not good win possession, he’s unable to carry the ball up the pitch, and he’s certainly not very mobile.

As if you needed any proof, the Mirror have provided it for us, using data from Opta. The report claims that Cahill has recorded the slowest speed of any player in the Premier League this season.

Cahill’s the number one slug with a 26.34 km/h speed, narrowly slower than Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana.

The Englishman was never the most mobile, but his speed and agility appears to have deteriorated in his old age. The time appears to have come to allow him to depart.
