Chelsea will be without Alvaro Morata for our trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday lunchtime after he picked up his fifth domestic booking of the campaign against AFC Bournemouth, report the BBC.
Morata was rested for the Premier League champions’ clash with the Cherries on Wednesday night, with out-of-favour Michy Batshuayi getting the nod. The Belgian failed to have any sort of positive impact on the contest, and Antonio Conte opted to call upon his number nine.
It proved to be an astute substitution, as Morata scored in the 91st minute to send Chelsea through to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Conte will undoubtedly be keen to call on Chelsea’s top-goalscorer again on Saturday as the Blues lock-horns with Everton in the Premier League. However, Morata was shown his fifth domestic yellow card of the season during the celebrations on Wednesday and will subsequently be unavailable for the trip.
It seems likely that Conte will revert to playing with a ‘false 9’ like he did against Huddersfield Town, opposed to given Michy Batshuayi another shot at impressing.
