Chelsea are back on track after a win over Southampton, and now they can look to build on a strong start to the season as they enter a period of easier fixtures.
The Blues were so good from the moment that Thomas Tuchel arrived last season that they were due a return to reality, and they certainly got that from Man City last weekend.
Pep Guardiola had been beaten three times on the bounce by Tuchel at the end of last season – including in the biggest club game of all, so it was no surprise that the Catalan genius finally got his own back.
Now City – along with Liverpool after the two sides shared a draw yesterday – look hot favourites for the title, refreshed with new signings and a new impetus for a new season, with stadiums full (well, most of them) and fans back to push their favoured clubs forward.
If you’re thinking of betting on the potential winner of the league at a site like rizk kampanjakoodi, you’ll see their odds for Chelsea winning the league are still pretty good – but our loss to Manchester City quite clearly dented our chances, in the bookies’ minds at least.
But there’s lots of good news for Tuchel and Chelsea fans too.
The Blues have now played Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City already. They have got a lot of their tough games out of the way, and now can hopefully pick up some momentum blowing away lesser sides, keeping them in the hunt until after Christmas. If we can make it there, it’s anyone’s to win. There are a lot of good teams in the Premier League this season, ready to take points off any title hopeful.
But let’s not forget that City have now played us and Liverpool in consecutive weeks, coming away with 4 points from 6 in their two toughest away games of the season.
Once again, Pep’s team will be setting the pace, and it’s down to us to catch them and show that this new look squad is here to challenge them for the long term.
They’ve got years of time of the training field behind them now, and when they’re firing they look like a well-oiled machine. We’ve still got to get our squad up to that level of familiarity, but considering our coach has been here less than a year, we’re well on our way towards that goal.
You’d be a brave man to back against us taking City very close this season, that’s for sure.
