Mason Mount relishes decisive goal in ‘massive’ win against Liverpool

Mason Mount put in yet another match-winning performance for the Blues against a shaky Liverpool side who lost their fifth consecutive home match for the first time in history.

Chelsea now have registered ten games without a loss, something German boss Tuchel is extremely proud of.

Speaking to the press after the match, Mount relished the opportunity to have helped Chelsea enter the top four. (chelseafc.com)

“I’m very happy with the performance of the whole team. It’s never easy coming here because you always get a tough game against this team at this stadium.

We felt like we could come here, put in a good performance and win the game. When you turn up with that mentality, of wanting to give it to them and press high, you’re always going to have a chance,” he said.

It was just before half-time when Mount attempted a fine effort that found the back of the net. Kante’s long ball found Mount on the left flank and the 22-year-old made no mistake in dribbling masterfully past Fabinho to drive in an effort in the bottom right corner. On the goal, he said:

“It just happened so quick. We know they have quite a high line and they like to press high, especially at home, so any time we played out from the back, we looked to go in behind them.

When I got the ball, I thought I was in a bit of space and I could go at Fabinho. When I got into the box, I knew I was one-on-one so I just tried to get a yard, get it on to my right foot and open up the goal a bit. That was my idea. I tried to execute it into the far corner. It was a massive goal for us and a massive win as well.”

Mount’s goal helps Chelsea close the gap on second-placed Manchester United & third-placed Leicester, who sit on 51 and 50 points respectively.
