Mason Mount to miss Atletico Madrid’s 2nd leg Stamford Bridge visit

Chelsea will be without their midfield engine for the return leg against Atletico Madrid.

Mason Mount misses the UEFA Champions League 2nd leg Round of 16 clash at Stamford Bridge due to an accumulation of yellow cards as he picked one up inside only the 1st minute at the start of the first leg in Bucharest for a tackle on Atletico forward Joao Felix.

Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount and Ziyech were all one booking away from suspension and the 22-year-old Chelsea favorite will now be a key absence for a decisive encounter against Atletico in London, along with Jorginho who also picked up a caution.

Mount picked his third yellow card of the Champions League season after previously having been booked against Sevilla in the opening matchday of Group E at Stamford Bridge, before being booked again in the return encounter at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on matchday 5. (transfermarkt)

Chelsea’s absences in the middle of the park will create a vacuum that Tuchel will hope to fill with the likes of someone who can dictate play and be decisive in key moments.
