‘Are they a football club?’ – Sarri’s agent refuses to acknowledge Chelsea’s existence

Maurizio Sarri’s agent is a joker, we like him. The Italian’s representative has responded to questions regarding his client’s reported switch to Chelsea by refusing to so much as acknowledging our existence.

Sarri was widely considered the frontrunner to replace Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager. The club were reportedly in negotiations with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis over releasing Sarri from his contract. However, he’s still on their books, despite the Serie A giants appointing Carlo Ancelotti as his successor.

That leaves Sarri in limbo, it remains to be seen whether he’ll get his seemingly desired move to Stamford Bridge. His agent hasn’t really helped us improve our understanding on the situation, which was probably his intention looking at these comments.

Alessandro Pellegrini responded to questions on Sarri’s future in a rather humorous way, see for yourself. He’s quoted by Football Italia saying:

“I don’t know who Chelsea are, are they a football club? We only know about Napoli. If I knew what was going to happen, I’d have bought a lottery ticket.”

If Laurent Blanc is the alternative, let’s hope Pellegrini’s skills of negotiation are as sharp as his sense of humour.
