Chelsea suffered an injury blow during their 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, adding to the issues that Maurizio Sarri was already contending with in attack.
Sarri only fielded a natural striker today through necessity. He was previously using Eden Hazard through the middle, with great success.
Muscle injuries to Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi forced Sarri to push Eden Hazard back out to the wing and use an archetypal centre-forward. Olivier Giroud was the man he chose.
Giroud scored two brilliant goals during his time on the field of play, but both were ruled out for offside. As he scored the second, he picked up what appeared to be an ankle injury.
The World-Cup winner grabbed his ankle and was forced off, with Alvaro Morata coming in to replace him. We eagerly await further updates on his condition. If it is serious, don’t be surprised if we push forward with our interest in signing a new striker this January.
