‘We will build a team nobody wants to play against’ – Tuchel sets his objectives with Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel believes Chelsea’s squad can hurt any team in the world but conceded the title may be out of reach this season.

Tuchel was thrown into the deep end for his first game as Chelsea boss on Wednesday night as the Blues drew 0-0 at home to Wolves, 24 hours after Frank Lampard was dismissed.

A rapid turnaround in management meant the German head coach was only able to conduct one training session with his new side before his debut in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

Despite failing to score, Chelsea remained dominant throughout and Tuchel explained how he was encouraged by the performance he believed deserved three points. (Quotes picked by SkySports)

“I was happy with the performance energy-wise, we were structured and didn’t allow any dangerous counter-attacks against one of the most dangerous teams.

We were very well-organised, brave, and played with courage as a team both offensively and defensively. If this is our starting point I’m looking forward to where we will end up.

“We have the capacity with this squad to hurt everybody in the league, in every competition, and it’s my job to bring the team to that level as fast as possible.

On Chelsea’s ambitions for the season, Tuchel added:

“The title is far away, we have to be realistic. Honestly, when you sign for Chelsea or, like me, as a manager, you sign for the expectation of challenging for titles. That is absolutely clear.

I’m used to creating the special energy and atmosphere you need to create for the possibility to win every three days in a league like this. I believe we can do this on a day daily basis.

We will build a team nobody wants to play against.”
