New manager, new ideas, new transfer targets?
Most likely, yes.
Thomas Tuchel has arrived at the club this week and took the reigns as the new head coach of Chelsea. He will bring new ideas, and give every player a clean slate to impress here.
The board are set to sit down with him around March time to speak about potential summer targets, with centre backs high on the agenda.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on The Si Phillips Podcast (my podcast!) today, here are 5 players that he can potentially see the club and Tuchel targeting this summer.
Dayot Upamecano (CB – RB Leipzig)
Chelsea have started talks with the agent of this centre back, Romano confirms. He also marks him as the one player he can see Chelsea signing first this summer. Certainly a deal to keep a close eye on.
David Alaba (CB – Bayern Munich)
Done deal to Real Madrid? Not quite. Verbal agreement yes, but Romano says anything can still happen with this one; Tuchel likes him, and Chelsea ARE one of the 5 clubs who have entered talks to sign him.
Jose Gimenez (CB – Atletico Madrid)
A club target from before Tuchel arrived, Romano mentions him as one potential centre back to keep an eye on still, if Tuchel decides he also likes him and wants to sign him.
Marquinhos (CB – PSG)
Perhaps a pipe dream, but Romano does confirm that Thomas Tuchel likes the Brazilian centre back and would love to sign him, but he confirms any deals with PSG would be very hard to complete.
Gianluigi Donnarumma (GK – AC Milan)
Although Romano believes he will end up staying at AC Milan, there is a small chance that Chelsea manage to get their man here, especially if they do sell Kepa Arrizabalaga.
