Academy Player Profile: Levi Colwill – The next big thing

We have had a lot of ‘The next John Terry’s’ coming through the Chelsea academy over recent years, I even remember hearing it about Andreas Christensen when he was coming through.

However, as we know, none of them not even Christensen have yet to live up to the hype. But there is a new kid on the block, and I am trying really hard not to over-hype him by mentioning him in comparison to Terry, but oh well the damage is done now!

Levi Colwill is the name, and perhaps the Terry comparisons are clutching at this stage, but it is probably the fact that he is already such a physical beast, he is great on the ball and good at reading the game, but most of all, he plays left centre back.

The next coming of JT? Who knows, and we must be careful not to hype too much. But Colwill is a player worth getting excited about for sure.

I was told today on my website Si Phillips Talks Chelsea by the reliable The Secret Scout, that Chelsea are planning to integrate Colwill into the first team setup very soon, despite him still being on 17-years old.

He turns 18 next month, and is currently plying his trade for Chelsea’s under 23s. He is a regular there, making 13 appearances so far this season, and he has also been a regular in the England youth teams, currently up to the under-17s.

As I said, left-sided centre back who is great on the ball, and a physical beast. He already stands at 6ft 1in tall and will still be growing. He is strong in the tackle, and comfortable playing out.

Contracted at the club until 2023, and there are a host of clubs interested in signing him. But Chelsea know the talent he is and are looking to get him in the first team squad sooner rather than later.
