I’ve not really thought much about this but yes, perhaps this does really play a part too.
A friend of mine and popular Chelsea account on X, CarefreeYouth, posted this earlier today:
As I said in another article today. None of us will ever truly know the reasons as to why Jeremy Jacquet is now heading to Liverpool and not Chelsea, and there will always be more reasons than just one. But things will be said, briefed, put out, but who knows what to believe.
This take here from CY is an interesting one and one that I never really thought about myself. But it’s true, isn’t it? It’s common sense I guess.
I think there is an element of this around all our deals at the moment. Chelsea is a conveyor belt of young players right now and has been to a huge scale for the last three seasons.
Every other day there is a new link to another teenager. It’s become a bit of a factory. Swapping and changing players between Strasbourg as well has become a real thing, and Strasbourg fans are fuming about it. Imagine if that was Chelsea? You could never grow used to a player or get too attached, because if they’re any good they’ll just end up at Chelsea anyway, but you’ll get another under-developed player in return instead, albeit a very talented under-developed player – so it’s not all bad.
I think all this has pros and cons, but the cons are strong. I do think CY has made a good point with this really.
Agents and players talk, and clubs get reputations. It’s not as if we are currently struggling to convince players to join us overall though, but the longer this way of operating and treating players continues, the worse effect it will have on things like that.
