Andreas Christensen revitalised under Tuchel  – Chelsea player ratings vs Manchester United

In the highly anticipated fixture of the weekend, Chelsea hosted Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in a game which resulted in a 0-0 draw.

Following an excellent midweek win over Atletico Madrid, confidence was high heading into this tough Premier League clash.

However, just like the reverse fixture earlier in the season, there were no goals with both sides struggling in the final third.

It was a difficult game for the two teams, and here is how the Chelsea players performed:

Edouard Mendy

Yet another clean sheet for our goalkeeper leaves little room for complaints, he was much busier than in the game against Atletico and made a few decent saves. It was a good performance, and he will hope to continue like this to cement his place in the starting XI. Rating – 7

Cesar Azpilicueta

It is fair to say Azpilicueta has been on pretty good form recently, and it continued today, he was good at the back and helped us going forward as well. Although the result was not the one we wanted he had a solid game. Rating – 7

★ Andreas Christensen

There was not a foot put wrong at the back today from Andreas Christensen, he has been building up form and finding consistency under Tuchel, so it is no surprise to see him in the team almost every game. He also was a key factor in our distribution up the pitch with all 73 of his passes being accurate. An excellent game for the Danish defender. Rating – 8

Antonio Rudiger

Every week Rudiger seems to be doing much the same, it was another strong performance from him. He made some lovely long switches in the play and contributed at the back to help secure another clean sheet. Rating – 7.5

Ben Chilwell

Having been one of the players to suffer from a lack of game time since Frank Lampard’s departure, today was a big opportunity for Chilwell to prove himself. He did not stand out as one of the strongest players on the pitch, but there were some good moments, hopefully if he can earn more minutes, we will begin to see more of the player we had earlier on this season. Rating – 7

Mateo Kovacic

Again, Kovacic has been one of the favourites under Tuchel and it is not that surprising. It was not the most amazing performance from him today, but he had a good game, he still is the man that keeps everything ticking for us in the midfield. Rating – 7

N’Golo Kante

Today I think we saw a version of N’Golo Kante that we are much more used to, there were some good tackles, and a couple of vital interceptions he made that could have led to dangerous attacks for United. This will have given him a lot of confidence and if things keep improving for him, he will be a difficult player to leave out the squad. – Rating – 7.5

Callum Hudson-Odoi

It was disappointing to see Hudson-Odoi substituted at half-time after he picked up an injury somewhere in the first 45 minutes. He had a very good first half and was probably the best player on the pitch up until that point. The wonderful delivery to Olivier Giroud could have so easily broken the deadlock, so fingers crossed that the injury is nothing too serious. Rating – 7

Hakim Ziyech

The first 45 minutes from Hakim Ziyech was obviously not his best showing, much like Chilwell this was a big chance for him to prove his worth to this team. There were some sloppy passes and he struggled to keep the ball, in the second half, however, there definitely was an improvement however, he was involved and created more, but it still leaves us wanting and expecting a lot more from him. Rating – 6

Mason Mount

It has been a very good run for Mason Mount, and he has been potentially the most consistent performer under Thomas Tuchel so far, today though I feel as though he found it difficult to get into this game. There were some very bright moments from him, bringing us up the pitch well, but there was still something that looked slightly missing. Rating – 7

Olivier Giroud

Considering the heroic display from Giroud against Atletico, today he clearly could not quite match that, I thought it was a relatively poor performance from the Frenchman. He may have not got that much service of course, but he did snatch at a chance and despite putting in the effort he did not latch onto Hudson-Odoi’s great cross. Normally he is so reliable in these big games, but he could not quite get it going today. Rating – 6

Substitutes: Reece James – 7, Timo Werner – 6.5, Christian Pulisic – 6.

This obviously was not the result we wanted from today, but at least we managed to prevent Manchester United from climbing further away from us, and we keep the top four within reach. With another big challenge approaching next weekend against Liverpool, it is important we take all three points and develop our killer instinct in the final third.
