Chelsea being closer to 16th than 3rd is far from progression – opinion

We are now just two games away from reaching the midway point in our season, and looking at the Premier League table right now is not much fun.

Chelsea are currently closer in points to Leeds United in 16th spot than they are to Aston Villa in 3rd spot. That is just a harsh reality.

Leeds are on 20 points, whilst Chelsea are on 29 points. We are currently only above Manchester United in 5th spot on goal difference. Aston Villa are 10 points clear of us in 3rd, on 39 points.

Tottenham, who are in 11th spot, are just 4 points behind Chelsea now. How on earth has that happened?

The Premier League has always been close this season, but the top three are pulling away. It worryingly stays close though, between 5th and 13th, with just 5 points between Brighton and Chelsea. My word.

We are in a VERY sticky spot that could get a lot stickier. Of course, for our guy Craige, we can also be glass half full here and say that we can also easily get ourselves out of this sticky spot by beating Bournemouth tomorrow night at Stamford Bridge, and then getting something out of the Manchester City game.

Bournemouth’s form has been poor of latec, and they haven’t won in their last 9 matches, so they are fully there for the taking. Chelsea will surely fancy this and take all three points in what will be a big boost that we need right now. I do think we will win this game (although I’m getting annoyed with being confident then having it thrown back in my face).

Manchester City’s recent form has been much better, but in true inconsistent Chelsea style right now, I always fancy us against the bigger teams because we just always get ourselves more up for these games, for whatever reason. So I’d certainly not bet against us getting something in that game.

It’s do-able to get results from both these games and at least force ourselves out of this sticky situation.

But at the same time, it’s also do-able that I am here in a week’s time reporting which new managers we are interviewing because Enzo Maresca has just been sacked after losing 3 in a row (Villa, Bournemouth, & City). Let’s hope it’s glass half full this time though, eh Craige!?
