Opinion: Chelsea can use momentum to beat Leicester

These last two games for Chelsea could well be a turning point in the season, but it’s so important now that they use this momentum and move forward, starting by beating Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

The feeling has been absolutely fantastic this week after overturning a 1-0 deficit to knock Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League, seeing Chelsea advance into the quarters.

This was against the odds really, even though Chelsea had been the better team in the first leg. Due to our recent form and performances, although many of us wanted to be optimistic about the game, the reality was that we won that against all odds.

It massively lifted the mood of the players, of Graham Potter, of the owners, and of the fans, and it’s been great this week celebrating and taking it all in.

But, the players and coaches will know that they have to now put that behind them and focus on the next game, which is the the 3pm Premier League game away to Leicester City.

It’s SO important now to take momentum and keep it going. Two wins on the bounce without conceding a goal is huge coming out of where we have been for the last three months. We must channel that and take it into our next game. We must not drop our levels, we must not drop our intensity, maximum effort, and fight that we showed at Stamford Bridge this week. Things could easily turn on it’s head again if we have a poor performance on Saturday.

Stamford Bridge was rocking on Tuesday, and I fully expect our away support heading to the Midlands this weekend to be in full voice once again and making themselves heard. This will help massively.

Leicester, like Leeds who we recently beat, are also in a relegation battle and are desperate for points to steer away from that battle. And at their ground, this could make for a very tough game for Chelsea.

Leicester are only two points clear of the drop zone right now, and they will be fighting hard to get something out of this game.

They have lost four games in a row now in all competitions. But in their last Premier League win just three games ago, they beat Tottenham at home 4-1, and then Aston Villa away 4-2. So we know they can score goals, and we know they can beat any side on their day, which is how the Premier League is.

However, the expectation will be that Chelsea need to go here and get a win, and with the momentum we are picking up and the confidence that should breed with that, there is no reason why we shouldn’t be coming away with all three points in this game.
