I can not write this one as a sourced article yet, even though there are some little bits of our info in it.
Most of this article is based on speculation, or rather opinion, from our SPTC Sources.
Just this week, there is more a sense that something could actually happen in January for Chelsea. We fear the Romeo Lavia injury and also, we cannot forget that both Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are playing with injuries as well as muscle fatigue. They need more breaks to recover from both of those but at the moment, they aren’t getting it. Dario Essugo is due back very soon but even still, there is a sense that they need something else in there.
This is where Kobbie Mainoo could come in. This is a versatile midfielder who can fill a number of positions in the middle, therefore being a much wiser player to have in our squad than Facundo Buonanotte is.
Our top source has floated the idea of Buonanotte’s loan being cancelled, and a loan deal for Mainoo being completed with an option or an obligation to buy.
Now, I’ve said for weeks now that I can’t see Mainoo coming to Chelsea and deep down, I think I’d still personally be surprised if he does make that move. He wants to play, is he really going to get that at Chelsea? I think he would play, but perhaps still not quite as much as he would want to?
Also, it’s been reported this week that Manchester United would want a big fee to sell him. That one is more just a briefing from United. Mainoo will push to go, and our SPTC Sources understand there is a good relationship between Chelsea and United, so something could easily be agreed there that suits all parties.
On paper, sending Buonanotte back to Brighton and bringing Mainoo in on a loan deal would be a no brainer. If it is at all possible, then Chelsea should be all over it.
We know they really like Mainoo and have looked at signing him recently, so you never know. I just think it might be tough to convince him to come when he is clearly getting offers from other clubs right now, clubs who will offer him a guaranteed starting place.
Another wild card potential move for January is Kenan Yildiz of Juventus. We believe that if anything happens here then it will be summer. However, there’s some chatter about Yildiz this week and we know Chelsea REALLY like this player. So if they decide they need something extra in the winter window for our attack, he is certainly one to watch.
