The performance of Alvaro Morata against Arsenal put emphasis on the need for Chelsea to sign some genuine competition for him.
Michy Batshuayi has been an outcast in Antonio Conte’s plans as the Belgian was an unused subsitute in the match.
Despite joining the Blues for £33m, as per the BBC, Batshuayi has failed to hit the ground running and you get the feeling that time is running out.
The striker that has got plenty of criticism for his recent displays is Morata. We’re far from suggesting Morata should be shown the back door. Scoring 10 league goals halfway through his first season in English football is impressive.
However, Antonio Conte needs someone different that will allow him to risk taking the Spaniard off if he’s not performing.
The perfect striker for Morata would be someone more physical that can help us later on in games.
Potential target
Earlier on Thursday, The Sun linked Andy Carroll with a move to Stamford Bridge which came out of the blue.
The Englishman has been frustrated with being a benchwarmer at West Ham. The tabloid newspaper suggests that Conte has added Carroll to his shortlist.
However, if it’s more game time that the 28-year-old wants then moving to Chelsea isn’t the right move for him.
The disappointment of not signing another striker in the summer continues to back fire on Conte. As the Mirror reported at the time, Fernando Llorente was close to signing for Chelsea but instead chose Tottenham Hotspur as his next destination from Swansea.
Llorente would have been an ideal signing at the time and Conte needs to go for a striker similar to the former transfer target’s quality and not Carroll’s.
